Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJ)

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, often referred to as TMJ, may cause pain around the face and jaw muscles, or headache.  It may be related to alignment of the teeth, but it may also be due to problems with the neck or muscles around the neck (even without pain in the neck).

At Manhattan Pain Medicine, we are trained to offer a comprehensive temporomandibular joint evaluation and treatment plan.  We will work closely with your dentist and other treating physicians to ensure you receive the best possible care.

Depending on the cause of your TMJ, treatment may include a bite block to be worn at night, botulinum toxin injection (Botox) into overactive muscles, physical or occupational therapy to stretch affected muscles, or medications.

Below is a demonstration video of botulinum toxin for masseter reduction, which can also be helpful for TMJ discomfort.
